Powers of 10 is one of the simplest, most emotional science films I've ever seen. And it's over 40 years old. You start at human scale and zoom out until your perspective is the size of the whole universe; then you zoom in until you're the size of an atom.
One of VR's unique abilities is communicating scale; so I set out to build a prototype of what Powers of 10 might look like in VR. This is a linear adaptation, the closest thing I've created to a "VR Film" and pays homage to the the original video by using its narration and soundtrack.
I used a drone to photogrammetrically scan one square kilometer of volcanic mountain ranges in Kauai to use as the starting point on Earth.
Work in progress.
